Game Rules

Objective

In Carcassonne, players take turns placing tiles to build a continuous path of cities, roads, and fields. The goal is to be the first to have at least 12 points by completing features (cities, roads, fields). When all tiles are used, the game ends and players total their points.

Player Actions

On your turn, you may:

  • Place a tile anywhere on the board that doesn't exceed the boundaries
  • Rotate a tile to any orientation
  • Connect tiles to form complete features
  • Play an action card (if you have one remaining)

Scoring

Features are scored as follows:

  • City: 1 point for each city tile you own
  • City with 2 or more roads: 4 points
  • City with 3 or more roads: 8 points
  • Field: 1 point for each field tile you own
  • Longest straight: 1 point for each tile in the straight (up to 5 tiles)

Quick Tips

Plan ahead

Always consider how your move will impact future possibilities.

Protect your features

Try to block opponents from completing features you're working on.

Use your action cards wisely

Action cards can help you place tiles or block opponents.
